Woman killed by train after dropping her phone on tracks and climbing down to get it

A 37 year-old commuter was struck and killed by a train after she dropped her phone onto the tracks and climbed down to retrieve it. Felon Smith died after being hit by the Chicago L Train at the 69th Street Red Line station around 12:40pm on Thursday.

Felon was pronounced dead at the scene, with service on the Red Line disrupted for two and a half hours after the accident. She ignored a warning sign telling riders to stay off the tracks.

The victim’s mother Jorgetta Martin shared the tragic news on Facebook, writing: ‘FB PRAY FOR ME MY DAUGHTER WAS KILLED THIS MORNING.’
